G. Harvey Gilmour, BA, LLB
Partner

Harvey’s 35-year career in institutional development has earned him an unmatched reputation for true fund raising leadership.

He has led the fund raising and advancement programs at Mount Allison University and Acadia University. Together these development programs raised over $100 million under his leadership. 

Harvey's reputation for ethical conduct, professional commitment, knowledge, and achievement is widely known, and was recognized by the Canadian Council for Advancement in Education (CCAE) Distinguished Service Award. He has developed special expertise in Board relations and management, capital campaign design and execution, staff mentorship, and institutional planning.

As a volunteer, Harvey currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Neptune Theatre and the Harrison McCain Foundation.

To Red Letter clients, Harvey brings the value of first-hand knowledge of most of Eastern Canada's major corporate and individual donors, and philanthropies.

Anne (Coyle) Melanson, BPr
Partner

Anne is Red Letter's resident expert on major gift program design and execution.

Her fund raising career began in 1988 as a Campaign Director for Ketchum Canada. She has led successful fund raising, major gifts and campaign programs in the health care, educational and social service sectors – most recently for Acadia University (1994-2003), and Saint Mary’s University (2003-2007).

Anne's experience extends well beyond the realm of capital campaigns. She has directed development program reviews, communications programs, feasibility studies, donor counsel strategies, and technology-integration fund raising programs.

With a Bachelor of Public Relations degree from Mount Saint Vincent University, she brings significant marketing and communications skills to Red Letter clients.

As a volunteer Anne has served as a member of the Board of Directors of both Pier 21 and the Canadian Society of Fund Raising Executives (now AFP Nova Scotia).

Anne knows the donor community and understands how to design and execute successful philanthropic programs. These strengths contribute greatly to each one of Red Letter's client programs.

R. Jodi Hutchinson, BA, BEd
Partner

Over the course of her 22-year fund raising career, Jodi has directed advancement programs at Mount Allison University, Acadia University and Saint Mary's University. She has actively contributed to the success of capital campaigns (Universitas, Acadia Advantage and Hearts & Minds, respectively) for these three institutions.

Jodi's unique background in leading both alumni and fund raising programs is reflected in her most distinctive skill -- the ability to cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders and donors.  This talent has contributed significantly to the success of the many annual fund, donor recognition, stewardship, and major gift initiatives that she has led.

She holds a BA (Honours History) from Mount Allison University and Bachelor of Education (BEd) from Saint Francis Xavier University.

Jodi’s volunteer time and talents have assisted L’Arche, Pier 21, The International Children’s Games, Valley East Basketball Association, Greenwich United Church, Port Williams Elementary School, Evangeline Middle School and Horton High School.  

Jodi's impressive current and historic knowledge of the philanthropic community helps match donors with the right philanthropic organization or project. She brings this great asset to all of Red Letter’s client programs.

Jennifer Bolt, HBA, MA
Senior Business Consultant

Jen has 21 years of expertise in applying innovation in academic, corporate, and philanthropic settings.

Her experience in corporate, university, and community college environments (IBM, Acadia University and George Brown College) has enabled her to develop a keen eye for partnership opportunities that exist between the private and not-for-profit sectors.

Her professional experience includes teaching, administration, planning, and public speaking. During the seven years she served as Director of Acadia University's Institute for Teaching and Technology (1999-2007), Jennifer helped raise over $7 million in external funds from corporate, private and government sources to fund the Institute. She became a sought-after speaker for international symposia on technology and teaching. Her roles at George Brown College and Acadia University saw her intimately involved in both fund raising and corporate partnership development.

Jennifer holds an Honors degree in Business Administration, from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, as well as a Masters of Arts in Adult Education from Central Michigan University. She is a Certified Distance Learning Instructor through the Teletraining Institute at Oklahoma State University.

At Red Letter, she has led capital campaign, corporate sponsorship and volunteer/donor training programs.

Her personal commitment to voluntarism is significant. Some of the organizations Jennifer has supported include the Glooscap Curling Club, the Kings County SPCA, the Brain Injury Association of Nova Scotia, and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, among others.

Jennifer brings the strength of experience in creative philanthropic strategy, corporate sponsorship, planning, training and education….skills that she contributes to all of our firm’s clients.

Carolyn Marshall
Administrative Manager

Carolyn's 10-year career in the not-for-profit sector has been wide and varied -- much like the distinctive combination of skills she has developed.

An accomplished researcher, Carolyn sources information that guides indviduals major gifts strategies. Her research on philanthropic trends provides her with a strategic perspective that informs our clients' overall fund raising and philanthropic program design.

Her skills in writing and editing are significant. In all areas of communications and writing, Red Letter clients rely heavily on Carolyn's talents.

Having played managerial roles for the fund raising programs of both Big Brothers Big Sisters and Saint Mary's University, Carolyn has developed effective systems and processes for information management and financial reporting. A background in event management prepared her well to assume repsonsibility for orchestrating high profile capital campaign events on behalf of Saint Mary's University's $40 million "Hearts & Minds" Campaign.

As a volunteer, Carolyn has leant her considerable talents to Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Dartmouth Family Centre.

At Red Letter, Carolyn supports and manages the research, editorial, information management and event strategy needs of our clients...indispensable skills that help move our clients' programs forward.

Michelle Potter
Manager of Finance

Michelle’s singular focus on finance and bookkeeping is reflected in both her academic training and extensive professional experience.

Michelle has been a skilled bookkeeper for 12 years. She has worked within Acadia University’s Development Office, and has managed all financial aspects of a family-owned business for 10 years.

A graduate of Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) Kingstec, Michelle earned a Diploma in Banking, Finance and Accounting, and augmented her knowledge through several accounting courses at Acadia University.

Her volunteer time and talents have benefited the Valley Regional Hospital, Coldbrook Lions Club and Coldbrook and District schools.

At Red Letter, Michelle serves as our firm’s financial manager. Her extensive knowledge of non-profit accounting and compliance also supports our clients' philanthropic programs.

Sandy Shelley
Secretary

Sandy Shelley’s strong organizational, administrative and database skills result from a 31-year career at Acadia University's Alumni Office.

At Acadia, Sandy was the central point of contact for the Alumni Office. Managing both information and alumni relationships on behalf of the University, she became an integral component of the University’s “institutional memory.” Coordinating information and project tracking are her fortēs.

In addition to providing top flight administrative support to the Red Letter team, Sandy’s extensive interpersonal and database skills support our firm's clients.
